The £10m state-of-the-art Hornsey Central Neighbourhood Health Centre passed a key milestone in its development this week, which was marked with a topping out ceremony.
Lynne Featherstone MP led the celebrations by placing the final piece of concrete into the new building.
She was assisted by the Chair of Haringey Teaching Primary Care Trust (TPCT), Richard Sumray, and Chief Executive Tracey Baldwin, as well as Haringey Council representatives and members of local health organisations.
The building was provided on behalf of Haringey TPCT by Elevate Partnerships Limited, the LIFT Company for Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, which is a consortium of companies led by Assura LIFT Holdings.
Speaking at the event, Elaine Siew, managing director of Assura LIFT Holdings said: "It is exciting to see how quickly building work has progressed and how close local people are to benefiting from this much needed new facility.
"Hornsey Central represents the fourth primary care resource centre that we have provided for Barnet, Enfield and Haringey PCTs."
Tracey Baldwin, chief executive of Haringey TPCT, said: "Today marks a significant step forward for this much-needed new health facility in Haringey.
"As one of the four Neighbourhood Health Centres planned for the borough, it will help deliver top quality services to our local community in a new building that matches our expectations for 21st century health and social care needs."
Stephen Jacobs, chair of Elevate Partnerships Limited, said: "Today marks a milestone to give the people of Hornsey the very best care in the very best facilities. Elevate Partnerships Limited is pleased to make this valuable contribution to the local health agenda."
When fully opened to the public in April 2009, the new facility will greatly benefit local patients by bringing together a range of services, some of which were previously only available in hospital, under one roof and firmly into the community.
It will also play an integral part in delivering Haringey TPCT’s Primary Care Strategy, which aims to make responsive, high quality primary and community services available for all Haringey residents over the next 10 years.
Some of the services available include GP surgeries, physiotherapy, children’s services, diagnostics and treatment, pharmacy and a special resource for people with dementia funded by a generous grant from the Lewis and Mary Haynes Charitable Trust.
Construction work on the facility started in September 2007 and it is scheduled to open to the public from April 2009 with all services being gradually phased in.
