The new £8.3m health centre on Canvey Island has been named, after managers asked residents for suggestions. The new centre – under construction near The Paddocks – will be called Central Canvey Primary Care Centre, the name chosen from a short list of five.

The centre is the first project financed and constructed by South East Essex LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust), a public private partnership between South East Essex PCT, Community Health Partnerships and private sector consortium led by Assura LIFT Holdings Ltd.

South East Essex LIFT Chair Stephen Jacobs said: “I am delighted the centre now has a name, just as the main steel frame of the development is being erected.

“The construction work is well on target to meet the finishing date next November and once Central Canvey Primary Care Centre is open it will bring real changes and benefits to the way people living on Canvey Island access their local health services.”

Elaine Siew, managing director of Assura LIFT Holdings Limited said: "We are pleased that local people have been involved in the naming of this fantastic new health facility. Central Canvey Primary Care Centre will be the first of up to 11 health and social care centres to be built across the region".
