Lordship Lane Primary Care Centre, Haringey’s newest primary care health centre, was officially opened by local MP David Lammy. The event coincided with an open day for patients and local people including guided tours and stalls with a healthy living theme.
In front of a large audience of local people, doctors and staff, Tottenham and Wood Green MP David Lammy, was full of praise for the benefits that the Centre will bring to the patients of East Haringey.
“Lordship Lane is a fantastic new facility for Tottenham, and one of the largest clinics of its kind in London. It demonstrates Haringey PCT's real ambition to deliver specialist services in, and accessible to, the local community,” he said.
“What excites me the most about this Centre is its commitment to prevention and outreach work – tackling serious health inequalities head on. The new ‘one stop shop' service for people with diabetes is only one example of where it is putting specialist care right in the heart of the community where it belongs. This is all in addition to the new state-of-the-art GP's surgeries, dentist services, family planning, physiotherapy and countless other benefits it will bring.”
The new Centre was provided by Elevate Partnerships, the LIFT Company for Barnet, Enfield and Haringey which is a consortium of companies led by Assura Property, a division of Assura Group. The £6.5 million building is the first in Haringey and the third provided by Elevate under this LIFT programme. The other two were completed in 2006 in Barnet and Enfield.
A range of new health care services will be provided from the new Centre and existing services such as Speech and Language Therapy, Health Visiting and District Nursing, Foot Care, Physiotherapy, Foot Biomechanics and the Dietetic Service have all been given an extra boost, with specifically designed clinical environments enabling these services to be delivered to an extremely high standard.
Facilities are also in place to enable people to present for diagnostic tests that will reduce the need for patients to visit the local hospital.
In addition, office and meeting areas are available for staff who visit people in their homes, with space also available for local groups to run small exercise classes and teaching sessions.
Alan Gavurin, bid team leader for Assura Property said:
"We are delighted to have completed our third primary care resource centre for Barnet, Enfield and Haringey and our ninth overall LIFT building across the UK. It is a successful partnership which is delivering a transformation of primary care facilities in this part of North London and elsewhere."
Richard Sumray, chair of Haringey Teaching PCT said:
“The new Lordship Lane Health Centre is an excellent example of how the Trust is developing, modern, better and world-class services for the people of Haringey. This is the first of a number of new health clinic developments in Haringey coming over the next five years.”
Joan Weight, chair of Elevate Partnerships said:
“The completion of this Centre ahead of schedule was the result of all the parties working well together in partnership. We are delighted that this exciting new building enables the staff to deliver a high quality and wider range of NHS services for the thousands of residents in this area.”
