08 September 2008

Assura is delighted to announce that one of its LIFT partnership buildings has been nominated for the 'Best Primary Care Design Award' in the national Building Better Healthcare Awards 2008.

Picton Neighbourhood Health and Children's Centre in Liverpool was short listed from a record field of 141 entries, and has been entered into the final stage of competition alongside five other outstanding building designs.

The annual awards reward excellence, innovation and professionalism in the healthcare built environment, looking specifically at building design, the patient environment, people and products, as well as estates and facilities management.

The £5m health centre opened to patients in March of this year and was provided by Liverpool and Sefton Health Partnerships Limited (LSHP), a public private partnership between Liverpool and Sefton PCTs, Community Health Partnerships and gbconsortium, in which Assura LIFT Holdings Limited is a major shareholder.

Commenting on the nomination, Elaine Siew, managing director of Assura LIFT Holdings, said: "We are thrilled to have been short listed for this prestigious award from amongst such a strong field of candidates.

"The striking design of the building, featuring green and red cladding has a strong contemporary feel, reflecting the diverse spirit of the local area, which encompasses a wide range of ages and backgrounds."

Graham Pink, chief executive of LSHP, said: "We are delighted to have been recognised by the judges of the Building Better Healthcare Awards.

"LSHP, alongside our partners Liverpool PCT, our architects MBLA, and our contractor Galliford Try, are committed to providing high quality, modern healthcare facilities, to improve the delivery of health services across Liverpool and Sefton."

John Garrett, programme director of ‘Out of Hospitals’/NHS LIFT, said: "Being nominated for this award is recognition of the work being done to improve healthcare delivery in Liverpool and Sefton. Liverpool PCT is pleased that our centre at Picton has been nominated alongside other high calibre buildings".

Winners and highly commended entries will be announced at The Building Better Healthcare Awards ceremony on 13th November, 2008 at The Brewery in London.
